Body odour, skin oils, moisture, heat, storage conditions and compounds produced through normal human activity can all influence how a textile smells over time.

The HealthGuard® Odour Master material identifies several odour-related compounds relevant to textiles, including isovaleric acid, acetic acid, 2-nonenal and ammonia.

Anyone who owns activewear knows the practical version of this story.

A shirt can come out of the wash looking perfectly clean but develop a familiar smell much faster once it is worn again.

A pair of shoes can look fine while the lining tells a very different story.

A wool product might still be structurally excellent but lose some of the fresh experience the customer associates with a premium natural fibre.

This is where anti-odour technology can add a functional benefit.

But not every approach to odour needs to work in the same way.

Anti-odour is not the same as anti-microbial

This distinction is central to understanding Odour Master.

Many anti-microbial treatments work by controlling microorganisms on the treated article.
