At the heart of progress lies innovation, not just our own, but the bold strides made by others we come across. Last week, our CEO Victoria Harvey visited the inspiring team at @PlanetProtector, and we couldn’t be more excited to shine a spotlight on the ground-breaking work they’re doing.

Planet Protector is living up to their name as true leaders of the pack, transforming the way we think about protective packaging. In their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility based in Altona North, they research, develop and manufacture a range of thermal regulating products grounded by one clear principle: sustainability without compromising performance.

If you’ve ever cringed at the pile of plastic, Styrofoam, and gel packs left over from an online delivery or meal kit, you’re not alone. Planet Protector’s solution? #Woolpack — a 100% sheep #wool based thermal packaging alternative designed for cold supply chains like food and pharmaceuticals. It’s compostable, renewable, and boasts incredible thermal performance. It is so cool! (Yes, pun intended.)

They’re also producing wool insulation and recycled denim thermal underlay for buildings – closing loops and keeping both products and people safe and warm. Take a look at their website to learn more: www.planetprotectorpackaging.com

Inspired by initiatives like these, we continue to refine our own #sustainability practices. One example is our expanded drum recycling initiative, which has been embraced enthusiastically by a number of our local customers.

We’ve long used reconditioned drums to help reduce plastic waste stockpiling, plastic production and energy consumption. Channelling the spirit of the classic milkman model, we offer a local drum and bulk container exchange service, significantly cutting down on wastewater generated during reconditioning, called the “RRR” program (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

Each returned container is carefully inspected, refilled, and returned with a friendly reminder note to help keep the cycle going. While this service isn’t yet practical for our interstate or international customers, we encourage opting for larger packaging sizes—like 200kg drums or 1,000kg containers, where possible. These formats already use reconditioned containers, helping to reduce waste at scale. <Maybe re-tag our last blog on this the reduce, recycle one>

We’re proud to support and celebrate innovation across the industry, especially from pioneers like Planet Protector.
